Types and Sign of Bullying

Bullying is simply the act of harming others. It can be an act of physical abuse and verbal abuse. Some examples of physical and verbal attacks are:
  • Physical Attacks: hitting, kicking, pushing, choking
  • Verbal Attacks or Harassment: name calling, threatening, taunting, malicious teasing, rumor spreading, slandering

There are many signs of bullying, some more obvious than others. If a student in your class or school show any of the signs below, you may want to ask them if someone is bullying or threatening them. Having someone to talk to and feel comfortable with is very important.
Some signs of someone being bullied may be:
  • be frightened of walking to and from school
  • change their usual route
  • not want you to go on the school bus
  • beg you to drive them to school
  • be unwilling to go to school
  • feel ill in the mornings
  • begin truanting
  • begin doing poorly in their school work
It is also important to remember that someone may not only be bullied by other students in their class or school. A student can be bullied by their teachers, siblings, or older students. Just recently, a young girl took her life because another girls mother was sending her bullying and threatening text messages. You can also see bullying through email, blogs, instant messages, and phone calls. Just try and be aware of what is happening around and keep an eye for signs of bullying in your school.
